How to Position Bird Feeders for Best Viewing
(Back to Duncraft.com Home Page)
One of the greatest joys of feeding the birds in your backyard is observing every aspect of bird activity. Hanging your feeders on a tree limb is convenient--but too often that tree isn't in a position to offer the best viewing of the birds from inside your home. That's where posts, multiple feeder hangers and deck brackets come in handy. They're the perfect solution to bring birds closer into view, and make cleaning and filling more convenient. They even help to reduce window strikes...read on for some great ideas!
Because posts and hangers are so portable and inexpensive, it's easy to create multiple feeding areas for best viewing from inside your home. Think about areas where you tend to spend a lot of time; at your kitchen sink, a favorite comfy living room chair, etc. Set up a feeding spot outside where you can watch bird activity while at these locations inside your home. If ground space is limited for installing a pole, an adjustable wall mounted bracket is ideal. Pair it with a modestly sized feeder and you'll get a great view of the birds. It's amazing how a tedious chore like washing the dishes seems pleasurable if you can enjoy songbird activity while you scrub. Another spot that lends itself to great viewing is usually outside a den or family room window. For a complete solution for feeding food, suet, mealworms and even water, our Deluxe Feeding Station fills the bill. Or try our Quad Hanger , it holds four feeders, giving you the option to mix suet and seed feeders with Nyjer feeders, or even flowers for a really pretty windowscape. If you prefer to hang a single feeder, our Single Arm Staff is attractive and functional. If squirrels are a problem, try the Squirrel Stopper System; guaranteed to keep squirrels off!
Moving feeders to your deck, especially in winter, can make filling chores easy. After all, who really wants to trudge through deep backyard snow to fill a bird feeder? Our Double Arm Rail bracket lets you hang feeders within easy reach. And moving feeders to the deck in summer brings songbirds right to your favorite outdoor room. Our Dual Swivel Deck Bracket is ideal--you can move the feeder arms so your feeder hangs out over the lawn--your deck stays clean and shell-free. Or hang flowers and a hummingbird feeder as we did (pictured above).
Save time mowing the lawn and move your bird feeders out of the way in a split second. Simply place your pole mounted feeder inside our Versatile Stand and move your feeder at will. This stand features a large round base that supports your pole and feeder without having to anchor it into the ground. When mowing the lawn just lift the entire feeder, pole and stand as one unit and move it aside.
If you have problems with birds hitting your windows, this next solution may surprise you. Birds see windows as a reflection of sky and often fly right into them. The problem becomes potentially deadly when birds are flying at full speed; they often don't survive the impact. But when birds fly into windows at much slower speeds, they are just slightly stunned. Birds reach full speed within about 10 to 15 feet after take off so we suggest you move your feeders closer to the offending windows. Set up a pole hanger and position it no further than 10 feet from your window or try a hanger attached to the side of the window. Our Wall and Post mount hanger is great.
